How to Overcome a Depression After A Break Up: Understand You’re In Control

It may be hard to believe, but what you’re going through right now can be controlled. Yes, you’re heart is broken and you can hardly get yourself out of this funk you’re in. However, what you choose to focus on, creates your thoughts, your thoughts create your feelings and your feelings create your behavior—thus, creating your own reality!

The more you think about your ex, the more negative emotions you’ll stir up inside of you. This is why you’re going through a depression after a break up. What you MUST do is begin focusing on what you want rather than don’t want. This will help you get out of the rut in you’re in. Remember this, whenever you feel bad, you are focusing on what YOU DON’T want instead of DO WANT.

How to Overcome a Depression After A Break Up: Use Intense Positive Focusing

Your mind isn’t conditioned to use positive focusing, otherwise you’d be feeling a lot better. Try this little exercise with me. Write down or type out EVERYTHING that you are grateful for. If you can’t think of a single thing, you are not trying hard enough. Are you happy for the people you DO have in your life? A computer to be reading this on? A roof over your head? A full belly as you drift off to sleep? The gorgeous sun shining through the window, causing your room to light up? Your clean bill of health? Seriously, whatever you benefit from in life, WRITE IT DOWN.

Once you’ve done this exercise, don’t you feel a little better know? If you don’t, go back and do it again. The first step to healing overcoming a depression from a break up is focusing on what you want, from the on, finding happiness should come a little easier.

Remember, life is freaking beautiful. Only with trials and tribulations can we come out stronger than before. Remember to stay present in the moment because when you are thinking about your ex or being alone, you are thinking about the past or the future. You must stay in the present moment because the past and the future are illusions– what you have is now and now only.
